Why would it be any different for a mattress? An item that you use with your whole body for extended periods of time. It needs to fit you perfectly.

Tailored Zonal support
In all the right places
The zonal construction of an Elysium is all about the ratio of the shoulders and the hips compared to the waist. Take, for example, someone whose shoulders, waist and hips are approximately the same width. Auping calls this body type I. These people need almost the same level of support in all three zones. But if your shoulders and hips are clearly wider than your waist (what Auping calls body type X), this specific mattress would not offer you the right support. Your shoulders and hips would not be able to sink far enough into the mattress and your waist would also not get the support it needs, resulting in your spine being misaligned in an unnatural position.
What’s your Elysium?
Virtually everyone can be categorised into one of four specific bodyshapes, depending on the ratio of your shoulders, waist and hips. Using this classification we can then define the zoning required in your Elysium. We call these bodtypes, X, I, Y & A.
Support & Comfort
But of course, it is not only about bodyshape, but also height, weight and sleep position. To account for those factors, we can then vary the tension of the zones to suit you exactly. As a combined approach, we can use the system to ensure that the mattress is soft for pressure relief where you need it, whilst also supportive in all the right places.
