Circularity.

The Highest form of recyclability.

At Auping, sustainability is in their DNA. From being the first European brand to offer to take back mattresses since 2011, to having a ‘green’ factory built in 2015, Auping are pioneers in the field of sustainable production.

The mattress industry has always presented a global ‘waste’ problem. With over 35 million mattresses per year heading to landfill in Europe alone. Many of which are incinerated at great cost to the environment.

Since 2015, Auping have been working to develop a better solution.

Some existing mattresses, based on natural fillings and certain foams can be recycled; yet what that truly means is only a certain percentage of the mattress can be recycled, and typically only once. In the end, since the materials do not have infinite lifespans, they will one day find their way to the landfill.

Circularity is different.

It means that 100% of the product can be recycled into a new product of the same quality, again and again. Infinitely. This was Auping’s challenge - to create the worlds first circular mattress, which they achieved in 2018. Elysium is an evolution of that development process  - a circular mattress that is also a luxury mattress.

Auping’s circular mattresses are made of just two raw materials. Steel and Polyester, both of which, if treated correctly, have an infinite lifespan. Capable of reuse in the same quantity and quality again and again. Auping developed new construction techniques, and specifically in co-operation with NIAGA, an adhesive system to build their mattresses that would allow for 100% of the mattress to be disassembled at the point it is returned for recycling.

The steel from the springs, can be reworked into new springs, and the polyesters which comprise the comfort layers, tickings, and all other elements can be reprocessed into ‘granulate’ from which the entire process can begin again. 100% recyclable with no new materials added, and no loss of quality. This is the miracle of true Circularity and the pedigree of Elysium

How does it work?

Closing the Loop

The second stage of circularity is to ensure that every mattress makes its way back to Auping for recycling at the end of its life.

We never want to see a mattress at landfill, or discarded in the street again. Creating an efficient ‘closed loop’ is key to that process.

So your mattress comes with a passport.

Scanning the QR passport code gives you information on how your mattress was made, where the materials are sourced, and how Elysium has been designed for sustainability. Total transparency.

Even better, the passport allows you to directly contact your dealer to arrange collection of your mattress at the end of its life. Which will be done on request, without charge, and then 100% recycled, time and time again.
